ATA Sparring

Songahm Taekwondo sparring becomes part of a student’s martial arts training once they reach the rank of Camo Belt. This way students can begin applying the basics they have learned, into true sparring. This can be thought of as reflexive responses against an unplanned attack. Once students have built up a repertoire of kicks, strikes, and blocks, they are able to strategize and train in a way that promotes true self defense. It is also an important part of tournaments, where students can display their abilities in a safe, controlled competitive environment while still showing respect to their opponent.

Students are required to wear ATA approved sparring gear. For safety, full contact is not allowed and there are specific legal target areas. Master Parker and her Instructors teach students to spar with control and to treat their sparring partners with respect. Fortville ATA has a high level of camaraderie and a true desire to helping each other improve their skills each class. All sparring matches and instruction is supervised by instructors to monitor proper technique
